Welcome to 2023 everyone! A new year and with that comes many new possibilities, especially over here at ScaleGrid. We’ve got a few new exciting additions to our management console that we are sure will come in handy for many of you.
Regardless of the size of your company, the importance of a secure and updated database can never be understated. With new vulnerabilities being discovered, making sure you have the latest minor version of your database to ensure you are safe from these security holes is essential to your data security. An outdated database can also suffer from bugs that can affect certain functionalities, uptime, and data accuracy.
Having properly set up system logging tools is a good way to keep track of the health of your database. Syslog is a messaging logging standard that databases use to send information such as messages regarding server events and their severities.
In our latest product updates, we have made improvements to our database version support, fully integrated Rsyslog, as well as providing full support for Amazon’s new UAE availability zone. Let’s dive right into what these updates mean and how they affect you and your databases.
Database Version Support
You can now update and deploy databases to newer versions.
- PostgreSQL 14.6, 13.8, 12.12 and 11.17.
- Redis™ 7.0.4, 6.2.7, 6.0.16 and 5.0.14.
- MySQL 5.7.39 and 8.0.30
- MongoDB® Database 5.x slated for late January.
As we previously mentioned, making sure you have the latest minor version of your database can be vital for its health and security. These minor versions include several different bug fixes and security updates, you can find the full release notes for each database and version linked above in the list.
We strongly advise you to keep your databases up to date, and ScaleGrid makes it easier than ever to automatically update them. Simply log in to your ScaleGrid console, then press “Upgrade Version” in your database overview. ScaleGrid then automatically handles the whole upgrade process from start to finish.

Rsyslog Integration
ScaleGrid now supports Rsyslog.
You can now easily integrate our database management service with your own centralized system logging service with our new support for Rsyslog. This opens up many new possibilities for enterprise and IT teams to manage and oversee your databases all in one place.
Rsyslog calls themselves a lightweight “swiss army knife” of logging. It accepts inputs from many different sources, transforms them, and then outputs the given results to various destinations. While it has a strong enterprise focus, it can also be scaled down to smaller systems.
Amazon Servers in the UAE Region
You can now create deployments in the new Amazon Region in the United Arab Emirates.
In late August 2022, Amazon opened up their AWS Region in the United Arab Emirates. This opens up huge possibilities for users located in the Middle East, allowing for additional availability zones in the area, lower latency, and higher availability.
At ScaleGrid, we want to continue to expand our global footprint by adding further support for hyperscaler regions. By now offering deployment options to Amazon’s new UAE-based availability zone, data-driven businesses and enterprises governed by data jurisdictions and data privacy will finally be able to deploy their databases on AWS in the UAE.
